Venus in motion

“The joy of a spirit is the measure of its power”—Ninon de Lenclos
Venus is the topic for today. She left Scorpio at 4:30 AM PST today having spent four months in Scorpio, this theme returns in eight years. The next long visit Venus makes to a zodiacal sign is in 2012, when she spends four months in Gemini (April 3-August 7, 2012)and we experience the second Venus occultation, the first one was back in 2004. Occultations in Gemini occur at intervals of a quarter of a millennium. For now, Venus will breeze through all the signs in less than a year. In fact Venus will be in Sagittarius twice this year—good for you Sagittarians! The same applies to Capricorn. Venus stays in Sagittarius until February 3 (21:58 PST) and her next visit to Sagittarius takes place November 2-26, 2011. Her itinerary is at the end of this post. Venus is in her morning star phase and if we want to catch a glimpse of her we have to get up early or stay up most of the night. Venus is visible in the Southern Eastern sky beginning about 3.75 hours before Sunrise. She is the brightest and can even be seen when the Sun makes its initial entrance and the other stars quickly fade.
Sagittarius energy is inspired, enthusiastic and loves to explore. People with Venus in Sagittarius have an infectious laugh; they want everyone to feel the fun. Life to them is not a destiny but the road less travelled. Socializing is in their blood, and most of them have a big circle of friends. While Venus is in Sagittarius we should take a page from their playbook and engage in activities that feed our sense of fun and the explorer within. We should learn to take ourselves less seriously—laugh at yourself, and just laugh. Sagittarius is also the sign of the philosopher, everything has deeper meaning. Look beyond the surface, ponder the mysteries of life—learn to appreciate yourself. › Continue reading
Embracing Change

This year I am planning to pay more attention to the ever changing sky. To that end, I opted for an astronomy calendar. On a clear night I have a beautiful view directly due North. We live under a flight path, not just planes but birds, flocks of which often cover rooftops and the patches of grass that pass for backyards. Earth is at perihelion today, that means closest to the Sun for the year. Reality meets inspiration and/or divinity. Wonder if the Epiphany was assigned a day close to this annual event to coincide with our so ancient pagan practises of paying attention to the stars and natural phenomena. Epiphany takes place on the 6th. I realize it is a religious Christian observance, however, I remember a tradition of not clearing the Xmas decorations until that date, which is also known as the 12th day—thirteenth in Sweden. In Finland it is a statutory holiday that ends the seasonal celebrations. It’s been around since the second century of the current era. › Continue reading
Venus horoscopes 2010

I just finished my column on Venus with horoscopes, it is at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/Venus2010.htm. The previous post on my blog talks about the Venus in Scorpio cycle in more detail. I haven’t actually written a horoscope since my Jupiter Review this Spring. Enjoy.
Venus Story 2010
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, Venus stories | No Comments
Venus moved into Scorpio September 8, and will move into the next Zodiacal sign of Sagittarius January 7, 2011. There is more to Venus’ travels this Season and next. Venus will return back to Libra November 7 for three weeks. Three weeks is the norm Venus visits a zodiacal sign. The delightful anomaly is when Venus spends extra time in a sign—since 1962 this particular cycle has been exclusively in Scorpio. This year, Venus returns to Libra by a little over two degrees, and in eight years by almost five degrees and naturally somewhat longer than three weeks. Venus weaves her magic with the precision of a metronome.
Venus favours Libra and Scorpio for longer than usual. Venus moved into Scorpio September 8 and stays in this sign until November 7, and comes back for an encore beginning November 29 until January 7, 2011. We had even more of Venus in Scorpio back in 2002—Venus was in Scorpio exclusively September 7, 2002 to January 7, 2003. This year Scorpios need to share with Libra (and that will go on for another five decades or so, with the Libran share of Venus’ company growing). Venus was in Libra from August 6 to September 6, and she is coming back for an encore of another three weeks in November; refer to Venus’ travel schedule for details.

Jupiter Review, British Elections;the Astrologer’s Diary
Saturday, May 1st, 2010 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, Venus stories, astrologer's diary | No Comments
Jupiter is in Pisces for a few more weeks, and returns for a repeat later this year. I finally finished my review of Jupiter for 2010-2011; you will find it at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/JupiterPisces-Aries.htm. The review columns feature horoscopes and address a longer period of time. For now on my blog I am writing my Astrologer’s Diary. I don’t send notices about every entry—my emails are periodic, and you are welcome to be on my list, just drop me an email. Off the blog you can subscribe to the automated RSS feed and your browser will show updates. Driving home around 9 o’clock the other night from the Langley Quilters’ Guild meeting I noticed once again how brilliant Venus is in the evening sky. When I was walking into our house there was an aeroplane flying toward west (well between west and north) and apart from the flashing red lights Venus’ light was brighter. Venus is in Gemini, which can be delightful for all air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius). This is a short passage with another 12 days or so left. At the end of this year, Venus will be spending lots of time in Libra and Scorpio; Venus will be retrograde for a magical 40 days and 40 nights. The last time Venus was in this cycle was at the end of 2002. Naturally I will blog about that later in the year, if you can’t wait to know-why not pick up a copy of Venus at the bookstore. The articles I wrote back in 2002 are still on my website www.astrologicallyspeaking.com. › Continue reading
Overnight Success Susan Boyle
Monday, June 1st, 2009 | Current Planetary trends, Venus stories | No Comments
Imagine living 48 years in relative obscurity and then two months of unprecedented fame and attention. In March when Susan Boyle made headlines across the globe and her performance made history on You Tube, I wrote about her chart, and came to the conclusion that she would get a record deal but would not win. The press and media love to sensationalize the life of people—they have become increasingly invasive, aggressive. News comes to us in sound bites, headlines intended to sell advertising or copy. Even Canadian National News broadcasts have followed her sensational rise to fame, I learnt about her second place on the evening news and the next day (May 31) CTVs national news broadcast advised the audience that Susan had checked into a London clinic. From the same source I also heard that she had checked into a hotel to escape the media the night prior to the finale. How do you cope with such dramatic, sudden rise to fame—this kind of popularity typically belongs to the rich and famous, who usually have had some time to adjust to it, find a publicity person and advisors to help cope with the media. From a perspective of astrology, Susan’s birth certificate was almost instantly available on the web. We can instantly find out what is going on with her by googling her name. The latest is that she has reportedly suffering from mental exhaustion. Other than the press, who would be surprised? › Continue reading
Susan Boyle Venus story
Monday, May 4th, 2009 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, Venus stories | 1 Comment
Venus retrograde has exceptional, innate and often ‘secret’ talent as obviously has Susan Boyle, who appeared as a contestant on the British show—Britain’s Got Talent on April 11, 2009. I highly recommend you listen to the performance on You Tube and check out the Cry me a River recording from 1999 as well. It is so refreshing to hear a beautiful voice not buried under the music. There are recordings without musical accompaniment. Susan Boyle has Venus retrograde in Aries in her natal chart, which naturally fascinates me and re-enforces the statements I made about the Venus cycles in my book, Venus, her Cycles, Symbols and Myths published in 2006 by Llewellyn. I saw Susan’s birth data in NCGR’s E-newsletter in an item written by Jackie Slevin. So, out of curiosity I thought I’d cast the chart and see what made her an instant celebrity. Because my program didn’t have the correct latitude and longitude for her birth town, Blackburn, Scotland, I had to do some additional research. Well, I don’t recall the last time that there was so much discussion about the accuracy of the data. There are two birthdates floating on the web. The verified one is April 1, 1961 at 9:50 AM (-1hr GMT) See footnote 1 However, if you Google Susan Boyle you will find an analysis using this date and June 15 of the same year. It would be easier to state that a beautiful voice belongs to someone with Venus in Taurus as was the case by June 15 that year. Robert Blaschke (www.earthwalkastrology.com) wrote an item for the Mountain Astrologer online blog, which eloquently addresses the prenatal eclipse chart for Susan. › Continue reading
Venus in Pisces returns
Monday, April 13th, 2009 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, Venus stories | No Comments
Venus moved back into Pisces on Saturday, April 11 for 12 days! Venus will move direct on the 17th. This is an ideal time to decide what it is you desire and truly want. The last time Venus was retrograde in Pisces was almost a century ago; thus it doesn’t happen often. Pisces is somewhat otherworldly energy, we need to still the mind to hear the whispers of the Universe. It is ultimately about surrender, but now is a great time to send your wishes to the ‘ethers’. There is magic in the stars and we have the innate ability to tap in, if we choose. Mostly we silence those thoughts that seem to spring out of thin air. For the next dozen days listen, dream and spring into action around the 22nd when Mars moves into Aries for six weeks.
Venus horoscopes
Monday, February 16th, 2009 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, Venus stories | No Comments
Venus the planet of desire is in enthusiastic Aries for weeks on end—this time we are all looking for inspiration while we re-evaluate what our personal values are. I posted an article about Venus this spring both on my website and on my blog. I have written longer horoscopes from this perspective and these ones will apply all the way until June 2009. The Venus periods at 18-month intervals are about finding true value, both in our lives and on the global scene. Read the individual horoscopes at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/Pisces2009.htm
Finding True Value with Venus
Friday, February 6th, 2009 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, Venus stories | 7 Comments
“He who wants a rose must respect the thorn.” — Persian Proverb
During our formative years—the first seven or eight years—our personal value system was set, it began simply by choosing what we like and what we do not like. Throughout life we make choices, but our core values were formed early. Our big issues in life are about our values versus the values of others. When we don’t understand how somebody can believe something or do something that we wouldn’t even contemplate, we tend to have problems. In relationships we tend to be drawn toward people, who share our value system, but then no two are alike and we must learn the art of compromise. Where we choose to spend our money, similarly, is based on what we value and is often a source of friction in a relationship. Once every 18 months (and there are lots of astrological cycles with that duration) we need to realign or reconnect with our core values; one of the most persuasive teachers in astrology is Venus—who repeats an almost identical lesson once every eight years.
