Astrology for You

Virgo and Libra

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 | Ask Anne, Astrology Students, Astrology for You, astrologer's diary, astrology basics | No Comments

Reader question: I have a question for you – I have had my chart done a few times. I have heard different opinions on my rising sign, 29 degrees Virgo – 1st house. Some astrologers say, it is essentially the same as Libra rising. Others saying no, Virgo…antithetic

Anne’s response: There is a big difference between the last degree of Virgo rising to the first degree of Libra rising. We cannot change your Ascendant to be a Libra or imply that it almost is.

If the final degree of Virgo is rising, we tend to find a person, who is very driven to accomplish something in life and has worked diligently toward the perfect presentation of self—always putting the best foot forward, or knowing your most flattering side. (Ready for my close up…)

Antithetic means diametrically opposed, which is the complete or exact opposite. So that cannot be true. Libra is opposite Aries, and Virgo is opposite Pisces. Virgo and Libra are adjacent signs, their connection or lack of one, was called an aversion by classical astrology. Aversion is a polite way of describing we truly don’t like something, and have little or nothing in common. The energy between the two signs is actually mitigated by the fact that they are of equal ascension, meaning they rise for the same length of time each day—so the two actually work together, maybe somewhat reluctantly. › Continue reading

Gemini, butterflies and Mars in Gemini

Monday, June 20th, 2011 | Astrology for You, astrologer's diary, astrology basics | No Comments

I just posted a column about Gemini and Mars in Gemini at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/Gemini2011.htm — it is a rerun of a column I wrote in 2003. The horoscopes in it are updated. “Geminis are like butterflies fluttering from flower to flower, always looking for new tastes and new experiences; breezy and blithe not allowing life to stagnate as that fosters boredom. Jupiter moves into Taurus June 4, 2011. I just posted a column with individual horoscopes on my website, find it at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/JupiterTaurus.htm

Amidst all the earth changes, it is nice to concentrate on some beneficial energy. It is also nice to see the pragmatic, solid Earth energy gain some influence. My at a Glance for 2012 is hot off the presses and I will be posting a link to the sidebar in the next few days. For now it is featured at my website www.astrologicallyspeaking.com

Red and Blue Doors

Monday, March 28th, 2011 | Astrology for You, Canadian Politics | 6 Comments

What do colours tell us, while this is primarily related to the Federal elections in Canada, you might learn a thing or two about primary colours. So we have a blue door and a red door, no mention of the orange door… Ignatieff hung his hat on the Ethics hook and now wants us to visualize colours. Red is a colour we associate with passion, anger, assertiveness and in astrology with Aries. Red is a vital, energetic colour and one of the so called power colours. How often have you walked into a restaurant and noted the black, white and red theme. How often have you witnessed women turn up at interviews or press conferences, or when in front of an audience, dressed in a red power suit. It is the lucky colour in the Chinese culture and also the predominant colour for both Xmas and Valentine’s Day. The message in a red rose is “I love you.” That is the colour the Liberals have chosen because they want the association with the Maple Leaf that graces our national flag. Our neighbours due south have the Democrats coloured red. Watch those power ties come out of the closet for the Liberal contenders. When we wear red we want to be seen, we want to stand out from the crowd and on an energetic level we want to feel our power. People whose auras are dominated by red are inspired by sensation, living in the moment, being in action and not that committed to deep thinking. Don’t you think colours are fascinating…

Blue is one of the three primary colours as well. Those that choose blue want to gain our trust. Blue, unlike, red is a cool colour, less attached to feisty energy. Blue is the colour favoured by corporations, think of all those blue chip companies. Blue is calm and naturally associated with water, tranquility and naturally economics. This is the colour the Conservatives have chosen › Continue reading

Asteroids in Astrology

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 | Astrology for You, astrologer's diary | No Comments

I received an expanded version of the brilliant Iris report yesterday. I have been selling this one online ever since it was first published. It is written by Roderick Kidston. Several years back Roderick discussed the various asteroids and their meanings in my personal chart, I was very impressed. He went onto compile a report about twelve asteroids in great detail. Over the past few years he has worked on the expanded version which includes Hekate, Chiron and Flora. This is a brilliant report now has 15 chapters and talks not only about the four major asteroids, Pallas, Juno, Vesta and Ceres but also Astraea, Iris, Hygiea, Proserpina, Diana, Apollo, Hephaistos, and Bacchus. In the report the Black Moon Lilith is also analyzed in her relationships with the other planets and asteroids. The writing is beautiful and the insights so unique. Up until yesterday all I knew about Hekate was that she is associated with the crone and the old Moon. When I generated my own report I discovered that Hekate has numerous aspects with the other asteroids and planets in my chart. This is what Roderick writes about Hekate in Aquarius: “The siren call of the future lures you ever forward; for you, magic lies in creating something new and exciting, even astonishing. Your creative powers are extraordinary when you find a proper focus for them, and it is more than likely you will be in the forefront of something dynamic and innovative, even totally way-out. Some kind of idealism is part of your personality mix, but your big ideas for humanity or the world can be salted with a good deal of criticism, which may alarm less confident folk, or those who avoid debate. You are a sharp observer, especially of groups, and very good at nailing what is right and wrong with them. At your best, your spacious mind allows you to travel far, both literally and metaphorically. A strong intellectual bent may make you seem a little chilly, but your goodwill to the world keeps you warmly connected.” I thought this rather poignant and frighteningly accurate.

This is a great report to help you understand who you are at a deeper level. http://www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/reportsonline.htm#iris the cost for the report via email as a pdf document is $12, a time of birth in addition to date and place is required. › Continue reading

Chinese New Year Meditation

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011 | Astrology for You, astrologer's diary | No Comments

The Chinese New Year begins with the first New Moon in Aquarius, which takes place this evening at 18:31 PST. In China, the date will be February 3. The year of the Metal Rabbit begins then. There are twelve animals in the Chinese Zodiac based on the year of birth. These are further assigned one of five elements and categorized into active and passive (Yang/Yin). The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. These elements are associated with the five planets visible with the naked eye. Wood is the element of Jupiter; Fire is the element of Mars; Saturn is the element of Earth; the element for Venus is metal and Mercury’s element is Water. Last year was also a metal year, that of the Tiger. There are two successive years each decade that belong to the same element; the first of the two is the yang year, the second a yin year. Yang is active, action-oriented, Yin is passive and receptive. Each decade begins with two metal years, followed by two water years, etc. Chinese astrology, when taken beyond the twelve signs is an intricate one. However, it is always interesting to look at what Chinese astrologers are predicting for the year.

The one beginning now, seems to be closely linked to family and protecting what we have. The last time we had a Metal Rabbit year was Feb 06 1951–Jan 26 1952; 60 years ago. So similar years arrive seldom, which probably is ideal for figuring out the themes for the year. Read about the mediation and more… › Continue reading

Mercury Story 2011

Monday, January 31st, 2011 | Astrology for You, astrologer's diary | No Comments

In 2011 our daily life is influenced by a need to act fast, to rush. There are so many things that demand our attention or grab our interest that it can be more difficult to stay focused. The story of what keeps our mind occupied and what tasks involving thinking we handle is told by Mercury, the planet of communication and logic. He is the one, astrologically speaking, that connects the dots. I just posted a massive write up for each of the signs at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/Mercury2011.htm.  I am working on my book on Mercury, and found inspiration. All fire signs—Aries, Leo and Sagittarius—are dealing with rekindling their passion for life. All Earth signs—Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn— are dealing with emotional issues involving family, security and matters we would prefer to suppress. All Air signs—Gemini, Libra and Aquarius—are dealing with relationship matters. All Water signs—Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces—are dealing with practical matters such as money and work. Because Mercury is so elemental you will note that signs of the same element—Fire, Earth, Air and Water—have identical write-ups with different timelines, meaning that for example Libra out of the Air signs deal with partnership matters this spring, Aquarius handles those kinds of relationships in the Summer and Gemini in the Winter.

Change is in the stars

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 | Astrology for You, astrologer's diary | 1 Comment

As the astrological month ends, many of the planets are at the end of a sign. Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune are each about to change signs. This week, the Sun is also at the end of a sign, getting ready to move on January 20. And there is a Full Moon tomorrow… thus we are dealing with the gibbous phase until then—that phase, astrologically speaking, is when we are perfecting, working hard and trying to get out a polished product, whatever that might be. Those of us born just before a Full Moon were born with this mindset, I have got to learn how to do it better, I can do better, and I certainly have room for improvement. Once a month our natal Moon phase repeats for 3.5 days and that is when we are learning about our role in life and how to best tackle it. › Continue reading

The Zodiac Story

Saturday, January 15th, 2011 | Astrology for You, astrologer's diary, astrology basics | No Comments

Much like finding how to get somewhere using the GPS, an astrological chart gives insights about how to navigate through life.

It is easy for the scientific community to debunk astrology, which does not conform to current specific scientific rules. The statement that we might have thirteen signs for horoscopes, caused reporters to contact many of us to get a statement. The National News ran the story at the end of the broadcast where the cutesy stories are read, the final minutes. It was so poorly compiled and understood by the reporter that the statements had become the Earth has changed location as has the Sun… completely nonsensical…

It has become obvious that people don’t understand the basic premise of astrology or the origins of newspaper horoscopes. Horoscopes as they appear in newspapers were the result of astrologers in Great Britain attempting to popularize astrology, and are based on the sign of the Sun; this began about 90 years ago. The actual horoscope or astrological chart is much more complex, the Sun is one of the starting points.

What information is identical between the two fields of study? Astrologers and astronomers time the seasons and eclipses exactly the same.

What is the Zodiac and where is it? How do we define the Zodiac differently from astronomy? › Continue reading

Astronomical versus astrological sky

Friday, January 14th, 2011 | Ask Anne, Astrology for You, astrologer's diary | No Comments

  • Western or tropical astrology uses the Zodiac signs not the constellations as astronomers now define them.
  • Copernicus—the father of the Scientific Revolution— was not only a Canon of the Catholic Church, but also a doctor, astronomer and a court astrologer.
  • Rest assured this item for the latest 24-hour news cycle is not about to change a system of knowledge and wisdom that predates Christianity.

This new astrological constellation according to astronomer Parke Kunkle, who began the current sensational story, isn’t new. Astrology, absolutely is antiquated, the surviving astrological texts date back about 2,000 years. The authors of that era refer to ancient astrologers, so we can make an assumption that astrology is far older. Astrologers use the names of the constellations; however, these are names for the signs and are not directly linked to the constellations. Ancient astrologer-astronomers knew about it, and decided that it did not occupy an adequate length of the Ecliptic to warrant an immortal space on the band of animals. Rest assured this item for the latest 24-hour news cycle is not about to change a system of knowledge and wisdom that predates Christianity.

The story gone viral today and entering the 24-hour news cycle is about how the fixed stars have moved and now everything is off kilter—astrology with its 12 signs is antiquated, out of touch with reality and should now change the whole field of knowledge. We might still think that the Earth is the centre of the Universe and the Sun, the one and only star in the solar system, revolves around the Earth. That changed when Copernicus published his book. Incidentally he was not only a Canon of the Catholic Church, but also a doctor, astronomer and a court astrologer.

The way astrology defines the time when the Sun changes sign is different from astronomy. Vedic astrology practised in India is star-based, however, off a little from the astronomical measurements. Western astrology is also known as tropical and is based on the seasons to put it simplistically. Astronomers and western astrologers give an identical time for the change of seasons. This is primarily the starting point of western astrology with the twelve signs for the Sun used in generalized horoscopes. Astrology goes beyond the Sun… › Continue reading
