Fire and Ice with Uranus in Aries

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 | Astrology for You, Current Planetary trends, astrologer's diary

I am writing my Uranus in Aries Review, it is progressing quite well. It will be posted in fairly short order at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com/UranusAries2010-19.htm. The image I chose was the volcanic activity in Iceland, taking place at the glacier with the unpronounceable name: Eyjafjallajökull—you can find the pronunciation on Wikipedia, the website that has quickly replaced traditional reference books. I used to know people from Iceland—their language sounds like poetry, soft and melodic—I could have listened to them talk for hours without understanding a word. Ice is solid water. Uranus finishes its main journey through the water sign of Pisces by moving into the first, most volatile fire sign, Aries. What lies beneath the surface and what kind of power it might have… isn’t nature awesome. The Review period for Uranus in Pisces is from August 13, 2010 to March 11, 2011. We need to finish anything that was left on hold in terms of change, innovation and re-inventing an aspect of our lives. The last kick at the can for another 84 years, tends to be something we remember for quite a while—no going back to how things used to be.

As the long-dormant energy began to break through there was fire. Then there were sparks and lightning as Mother Nature put on a show. The ash spread far and wide disrupting flights. While some astrologers use contemporary rulerships and others classical ones; most of us would assign aeroplanes to Uranus—the classical sky-god.

I find it fascinating when the Universe sends us messages and we make our attempts to understand the meaning (of course, we only understand a bit of it). To me this is a potent image for Uranus moving into Aries—yes the event took place prior to the actual ingress of Uranus into Aries. Astrology has exact dates and degrees; it is a symbolic language after all. When a big object is about to enter an area, it is not instantaneous in reality. For example astrologers time eclipses to the same degree for the Sun and the Moon, however, an eclipse is visible much longer, both before and after. We feel the effects when something is approaching, and once it has passed the potential for action fades.

Uranus is associated with technology and inventions; in the past seven years we have witnessed breakthroughs in medicine with Uranus in Aries maybe some of those tools will be made. Aries as a Mars ruled sign is associated with tools and machinery. The movie, Avatar, was about people building bodies and inhabiting them and behind the predictable storyline was a message about how we are all linked to everything. I just saw the movie on the pay-per-view; didn’t ever make it to the movie theatre, most of us now have big screens at home and with a click of a button we can order products into our homes. The next TVs will be in three dimensions, so the low tech high-definition flat screens will become a cheap commodity. That’d be Uranus territory. Most of us now have either a laptop or a handheld device for viewing the world through the Internet. Computers as we know them are likely to give way to something new. Interestingly, viewing Avatar on the big screen caused headaches for people. When planets are in Aries, particularly Mars, astrologers do talk about the potential for a headache.

We didn’t know about Facebook until 2004, it began a social network for a University, and now most of us have a page. A revolution in how we communicate socially. In the final years of Uranus in Pisces, texting has become tweets-we are down to even more limited ‘vocabulary’. It has been funny to watch how the older generations have tried to adapt to the acronyms (I can’t be bothered), such as LOL, it is read as Lots of Love rather than laughing out loud. Emails are beginning to be typed out with characters that when said out loud sound like a word… even literary works now have truncated words, which have English teachers cringing in horror. I don’t necessarily see this as a Uranus phenomena, rather language patterns seem to follow the twelve year Jupiter cycle. Uranus is about how we connect collectively.

It’d be interesting to know how the teenagers communicated as the 1920s gave way to the 1930s. The dates for Uranus in Aries previously are March 31, 1927 -November 4, 1927 (preview), January 13, 1928-June 6, 1934 (main event) and October 10, 1934-March 28, 1935 (review). That was the time of the Market Collapse; there are similarities in the present time. The member countries of the European Union are rescuing Greece with Germany giving out the most. This Union and its currency the Euro emerged strong during the past seven years.

Watching the news during the preview period, May 27-August 13, 2010, is likely to shed light on what is ahead of us. The strongest element associated with the sign of Aries is pioneering, taking bold action and beginning new things. What might this mini-revolution bring us? We can speculate, although it can be a hit and miss. The inventions of the previous era in no particular order: Electric shavers (no more messing with blades and knives), bubble gum, penicillin, yo-yo, car radio, scotch tape (faster than fixing it, I guess that evolved into duct tape), frozen food (quick meals, don’t have to wait, Aries loves that), stop-action photography, Polaroid photos (instant photos, Mars likes fast), electron microscope, stereo records, canned beer (you could now take it with you), voice recognition machine (this technology has been so slow to evolve, I still type, bought the software to be able to talk… doesn’t work fast enough), Colt revolver, strobe lighting, freeze dried coffee, and of course the jet engine.

The timelines for this round of Uranus in Aries are:

Time line for Preview: May 27-August 13, 2010
Time line for Main Event: March 11, 2011-May 15, 2018
Timeline for Review: November 6, 2018 to March 6, 2019

I think somebody needs to invent voice recognition software that can be used fast without all the aggravating training. We need to invent a gadget that controls all of the things we have attached to our TV screens. I should be able to—without wires—to tell my computer to play a movie off my laptop. Now I have to hook up a cable and because the new TV does not have modern adapters, there would be no sound. Someone should invent proper wireless technology, all in one and something we can access on the run, that’d be true form for Aries. If I want to play music from an MP3 player in the car, I have to hook the gadget in with a USB cable—could we go wireless? The problem with advancement and change is that we cannot go back to the way things were. How often do we spend time in person with our friends; how often do we find the time to chat on the phone rather than send out a status update via the latest social network. Will teleportation out of space shows and movies become reality? Can atoms be split and merged back together? When will Sci-Fi become Sci-Fact?

It is interesting to note which TV shows are ending just days prior to the shift of Uranus out of Pisces. The end of Lost was probably the biggest. Six seasons (the typical lifespan of a successful show), Law and Order was in the prime time for two decades and ended without hype, Ghost Whisperer has apparently also been cancelled, although ABC might pick it up… 24 lasted eight seasons. Hollywood seems to have a finger on the pulse of what is new and innovative (yes bunch of it is unimaginative, repetitive, etc), yet the themes echo the symbolism of astrology. There are weird shows such as Fringe about what might be out there, and I expect by 2012 there will be a bunch of those. Apparently there are eleven storylines to books; movies, etc—wonder if someone will come up with the twelfth while Uranus of innovation is in Aries of pioneering, breaking new ground.

For the next seven years we will break new ground in an area of lives. Re-inventing how we are, how we do things, what we choose for work, etc. depending on our birth charts. It is a process, not a singular event or concept. It doesn’t mean that everything in our lives is about to change. However, something has got to give—where do you feel in a rut and want to embrace something new, different and unique? My Uranus Review will be on my website shortly with prognostications for the individual signs.

Ann it’s funny, I had a dream of myself and Vern on a cloud and he fell into the Artic waters – I thought I would too but a man showed up and said “don’t lose faith” so I leaped for a ice flow and there I sit alone drifting in the Artic.
