Thoughts about Pluto

In a recent conversation with a colleague we talked about Pluto and what Pluto in the 12th house might mean. Some of the keywords for Pluto are rather negative—death, destruction, atomic bombs and that vague word ‘transformation’. In my life Pluto has finished with my twelfth house and in my friends chart that is influence is now active for another 5-6 years. Pluto is not all bad. I think that the role of Pluto is to unearth anything we may have repressed-the length of time is irrelevant to Pluto. My favourite description for how Pluto operates involves the septic tank. The septic tank processes waste, spreading onto the septic field via perforated pipes and this liquid in turn fertilizes the ground. Astrology associates Pluto with elimination and waste. When the septic tank is too full or the field is not functioning properly the waste will back up inside the house. Naturally it is the lack of maintenance that is the culprit.
