Mercury retrograde

Friday, January 8th, 2010 | Current Planetary trends, astrology basics

Mercury became a morning star on Monday and will move direct Friday the 15th. Mercury retrograde is the best known phenomenom in astrology. Mercury has been retrograde this go-around since December 26. We quickly learn that we should not sign contracts and other important documents during these times. We should not buy vehicles and any equipment that has wiring. Mercury rules over all kinds of connections in astrology. This week I have had several discussions about Mercury retrograde—facts and myths. Remember that Mercury is also in charge of trivia!

Rule of thumb: Mercury is primarily in charge of commerce, communication and travel. During Mercury retrograde times, three weeks at four month intervals, we are more likely to change our minds.

What can we blame Mercury for? Nothing really, as it boils down to what we did or didn’t do. It is a natural time for revising things. The little things that can and do go wrong are trivia. This week I have had issues with my digital recorder. My bad really. The battery lasts a long time, and I have spare ones galore—all charged up of course. The problem is that the charge only holds for so long. I didn’t pay attention to charging the batteries more frequently. Finally the third spare battery worked on the fly.

When we misplace of lose things we love to blame Mercury retrograde. I have lost/misplaced broches, scarves and items of clothing. Simply cannot remember where I put them, or if I might have lost them. Too busy with all of the things I must red0 and/or remember to do. I have found things I thought were long gone over the past couple of weeks.

Buying a car during Mercury retrograde… I have a few neat stories. We bought a Volvo two decades ago with Mercury retrograde in the States, and drove the car to Canada when we immigrated here. Shortly after I was driving it when all the gauges and lights on the dashboard stopped working. We took to it to several garages to get the problem fixed; yes, Mercury was retrograde at that time. The mechanics couldn’t find the problem. About four months later, the vehicle needed servicing and by now I was rather used to gauging my speed, etc. without seeing the speedometer.  The mechanic asked me if I wanted him to find the problem and fix it. At this point, I felt I had spent too much money on trouble-shooting, and said no, just change the oil, the filters, etc.

When I went to pick the car up, he proudly stated that everything worked, there was a loose wire and it took him all of three minutes to fix it. About a year later we sold the vehicle, remember the odometer hadn’t worked for about 8 months…

About a decade ago, the owner of the company is managed, wanted to buy a big rig, before his year end. Mercury was retrograde at the time. He asked me what’s the worst that can happen… By now my solution had become, get warranty if you have to buy anything with wiring during Mercury retrograde. What happened? That truck was in the shop at four-month intervals for all the years the companyowned it, at the expense of the insurer.

Buying a computer

I have bought a couple of computers with Mercury retrograde and had extended warranty. Those computers were in the shop more than others. Parts had to be replaced, etc. When I took the time with my first three computers (I have bought a few dozen computers over the past few decades, both for work and for personal use), to find a good time to buy them I got many extra years of service.  The lifespan of a desktop is about five years, and that of a laptop about three, if you get more out of them you are doing well. These days I don’t need the headache of having to wait for a computer to be fixed so I opt not to buy them during Mercury retrograde.

Hi Anne,
I’m not sure if this is the place to ask questions but on another part of your sire you did welcome questions of a general nature. Well I have one and I’ll try to keep it general. Does all of Mercury retrograde’s potential screw ups apply for listing with a real estate agent at the time of retrograde? In this case the retrograde is taking place in my fourth house. (Sorry not so general) What do you think? I’d welcome any comments on this matter?
Thank you.

Mercury retrograde is about REVIEW. Have you already been discussing selling? If that is the case now you are likely contemplating things more. During Mercury Rx we are ore likely to change our minds. I don’t personally like to sign binding contracts with Mercury retrograde, too often important details are missed necessitating revisions and changes when Mercury is direct. I have found that after Mercury changes phase, that is becomes a morning star, which takes place April 28, we have made up our minds and less tends to go awry. You are in a cycle of endings and moving forward to a new phase of life in the course of the year. Your husband wants to initiate a new direction and feel enthusiastic about life. The other thing to keep in mind is that when we feel the need to ask about what could go wrong, we already have a notion that something might, which suggests you feel the need to wait until Mercury is back on track. This takes place May 10, it’s only a few weeks… why rush.
