Summer Solstice

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 | Canadian Politics, Current Planetary trends, Mundane astrology

The Summer Solstice takes place June 20, 2009 22:46 PDT. The direction changes, now the days begin to grow shorter until the Autumnal Equinox, when day and night are of equal length. The solstices and equinoxes are pivotal — our direction changes. Naturally this plays out more strongly in the mundane world of politics and the current dramas.

When writing an analysis about the current planetary weather I am looking at probabilities. When I write for the signs it is directed at the Sun sign only. Personal horoscopes however are rather complex in comparison and offer more specific information. I do think that many horoscopes are valuable, because they can provide information about the natural cycles in our lives. They cannot give detailed information specific to you.

The Sun is in Cancer until July 22, 2009, at 9:36 PDT, the Sun moves into Leo. The universal themes associated with the sign of Cancer are home, family, heritage and retreat from the hustle and bustle of life.
I chose to cast this Solstice chart for Washington, DC the seat of the US government, because it is one of the astrological tools to look at the season in terms of the USA. United States celebrate their Independence Day July 4. The Solstice takes place at 1:46 EDT on July 21. Pluto is at 2° degrees into Capricorn at the top of the chart, which means that at the Solstices and equinoxes we have the Sun in a challenging aspect to the Sun. This tends to result in pronounced changes in direction during the first couple of days of the season. Paying attention to the headlines during this time will give you many clues as to what are the likely events in the World for the next decade. We can also look at Pluto by placement and recognize that the changes and repairs to the economy is a big theme (This isn’t news). The unemployment numbers are likely to increase this quarter still, and there are more expenditures from the public coffers. I put a few words around the wheel, to illustrate the prominent themes. I would expect the real estate to stabilize a little, and action being taken to ensure that the rescue plan is functioning. The automobile sector is likely to continue to be in a state of flux throughout this season. Finding funding for the health care plan may meet with opposition.

Mercury of communication and travel moves into Cancer July 3, which could mark heated debates about policy. Immediacy, not down the road is more likely to be demanded. This only lasts a couple of weeks and then Mercury moves into Leo until August 2. This tells astrologers that it is moving fast, which means we tend to leap ahead with ideas and plans and get way ahead of what is possible in terms of time. Late July we are likely to see trade unions and workers in general protest about terms of contracts etc.

This month there are many shifts and changes in energy, which in astrology are represented by the planets changing signs. We are in our eclipse season in July and early August. These ones repeat from 19 years ago-the same dates and same degrees. These are the timers in astrology and the one on July 21 is a total eclipse of the Sun, which is visible in India and Asia. To see the line of visibility, visit: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/TSE2009/TSE2009.html  In terms of generalized horoscopes it is difficult, if not impossible to apply to the signs, and tends to materialize as world events. It is also more typical for these events to take place in areas where the eclipse can be seen.

A Solstice chart Cast for Ottawa, Canada is very similar. Canadians are faced with the similar issues. Here the discussion about employment insurance is prominent, the rescue packages for other industries are taking place and medical isotope production is halted, likely permanently, which affects people globally. Our Prime Minister is under pressure to do more; the real estate market is stabilizing and there are big infrastructure projects in the works. What we are likely looking at, is simply that the demands to do more and faster are the main themes.
