Summer Elections in Canada

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 | Canadian Politics, Current Planetary trends

As a voter I cringe at the idea of yet another federal election, but then I am not alone, according to a recent poll 75 percent of Canadians do not want to have nor pay for yet another election, where we will send the same message—a minority government for the party in power. The bottom line is that the result of a summer election would be that the conservatives get a few more candidates in. I think that with the current planetary weather and so much ‘fixity’ in the stars we would choose the ‘devil’ we know… I have studied the charts for Ignatieff, Harper, Layton and even Duceppe and the chart for Canada over the past six months. As I talked about in my previous posts, the two men have much in common; both have a Taurus Sun, Aquarius Moon, and Jupiter in Scorpio. Ignatieff is on the left side and Harper on the right. Ignatieff is the philosopher and Harper clearly an economist—both are realistic about what is possible. The timing is not great for Ignatieff to win an election at this point; I am sure he knows this.

When I wrote the first piece back in late January about the federal budget there was the threat by the three parties in opposition not to support the budget. Well the Liberals did and the fact that NDP and the Bloc did not was not a factor. This week Ignatieff has been demanding changes to the way the unemployment benefits are managed before agreeing to support the interim reporting, which was a condition of his party’s support for the January budget. That chart of the budget continues http://www.annemassey.ca/2009/01/25/budget-canada-january-2009/ valid until the next budget. Based on the fact that issue arose once again with the Moon in Aquarius, gives us timing for the next threat. In the budget chart Saturn was in Virgo in the sixth house giving an indication that employment insurance would remain an issue that needs to be restructured. The threat has ensured that self-employed people will be allowed access to EI, which is welcome news to small business owners like me.

Venus, Mars and Mercury are in Taurus which is about money, stability and the ability to have our basic needs met. The other side of the equation is spending money on creating stability, jobs and wealth for the country. Those are the issues, the Prime Minister is talking about how an election now would stop the progress of hundreds of infrastructure projects and Ignatieff is choosing to include demands that people who have worked for 45 days should qualify for employment insurance; and naturally the taxpayers would pay for that. Ignatieff’s chart (note that time is not known, but we can read quite a lot from the planetary configurations) belongs to a philosopher, the most focal point is Jupiter in Scorpio; Jupiter is the philanthropist and Scorpio is the natural sign of shared wealth and resources. Canada has Pluto in Taurus in the second house, and Saturn opposes that from Scorpio-this is a conservative country when it comes to spending our money. All of these Taurus planets are now on our Pluto; and the upcoming Venus/Mars cycle begins on our Pluto-I cannot see this little uproar launching an election.

Harper and Ignatieff have a lot in common; both have Sun in Taurus and Moon in Aquarius. Harper is more Mercurial, relies on logic and economics. When I see either one on TV, Harper is the one who actually attempts to make eye-contact whereas Ignatieff does not look at the camera-he is always glancing down from the corner of his eyes… no astrology merely an observation. These two know how to push each other’s buttons, Ignatieff at this point makes a good opposition leader, he can get Harper to co-operate-a good thing for us voters. The Sun-Uranus in our national chart is volatile, just tune in to the arguments at parliament hill, I can only bear to watch for a few minutes and shake my head wondering how anything ever gets done in this country.

We will have another episode as soon as the next session opens, and then Mars will be in Cancer and the issue will still be employment and health care. I wonder if the minister in charge of health care will be forced to step aside. In 2010 Uranus moves into Aries for a preview following Saturn into Libra later this year, this might actually begin a longer process of forcing another election or a change in leadership of the Conservatives. The true pressure builds up in 2011-12.

Judging by your analysis, I think the next election will be held next year in 2010 (after the Olympics, with voting day sometime in May). I think Harper will win again, but it’ll be another minority. Thus, he’ll probably quit as leader a year later so the Conservatives can choose a “better” leader to get a majority government. Does this sound about right?

It might linger on for the real pressure in 2011. Haven’t looked at the real timing of the election yet. However, I do have an inkling of Harper stepping aside before his term is up.

Anne,
PM Stephen Harper I liken to General Oliver Cromwell - a good leader of those times, as is with Harper. If, as you forcast, he is to step down it shall be due to health reasons only.

Marcia,
I don’t actually have an opinion about how Harper might step down, only looking at the implications through astrology. I guess I need to look at the potential of Canadians being forced to polls in November.
