Vicky Huntington and Wally Oppal
This article is an intellectual exercise to determine the winner in the contested South Delta riding using two horary charts. The latest information is that incumbent Wally Oppal who declared himself the winner on election night leads by three votes, which means that there will be an automatic recount and also that votes cast prior to the election are not yet included in the numbers. He was serving as the Solicitor-General in Campbell’s cabinet prior to the dissolution of the legislative assembly and the election writ issued April 17—the official date for the start of the campaign. I was thinking of writing a post script for my election analysis posted April 11, 2009, in which I stated that the BC Liberals would win. Read my earlier post at http://www.annemassey.ca/2009/04/11/bc-elections-a-close-race/. However, I was distracted by this particular riding where there will be an automatic recount. I don’t have the option to look at the charts of the candidates, because I have no data for Oppal, other than he was born in 1940. I have even less for the independent candidate Vicki Huntington. The recount will not begin until May 25, when Mercury will still be retrograde in Taurus (23°53′); the Sun was at 22°30′, when the polls closed on May 12 at 20:00 PDT. Two days later when the results will be announced (May 27) Mercury will be at 23°16′ and on May 30 Mercury changes direction at 22°52′. The reason I am listing the actual degrees is that Mercury of accounting, counting and recounting will not return to the Sun’s degree on Election Day, which suggests that recount might not favour Oppal. However, I do not have a time for the announcement of the result of the recount, thus casting or reading an event chart is not an option. There are numerous aspects between the planets that day suggesting lots of news and activity. We will have a New Moon on Sunday May 24—a new direction with changes… maybe.
Other Astrological Tools
Astrologers use horary charts to answer questions. These are charts cast for the moment the question is asked and the answer is surprisingly buried in the symbolism. Horary refers to the hour. This was one of the first things I learned as an astrologer, but it has been almost two decades since I cast these kinds of charts regularly. I am rather rusty, and my analysis may falter. However, as an intellectual exercise, I thought I’d play with this. This branch of astrology is based on rather stringent rules. The first one is about
the validity of the question. Rather too quickly I thought of ‘Will Wally Win’ as my question and cast a chart for that time. I looked at this chart as if it were written in hieroglyphics. Finding the planet that represents Wally proved a challenge. Well, he was the Solicitor-General (Read foonote 1), thus Jupiter and the ninth house and its ruler Mars became the contenders. Jupiter is with Neptune, the planet of illusion, fantasy thus rather unclear. However, the astrologer is always shown in the chart—the seventh house and its ruler- in this case the retrograde Saturn. Saturn is about the status and expertise acquired and by virtue of being ‘debilitated’ suggests that the astrologer cannot read the chart. I pulled out Lee Lehman’s book ‘The Martial Art of Horary Astrology’ (I highly recommend this book) to see what she had to say about it all, by now I had cast a second chart, which I will talk about in a bit. She talks about the validity of the question and or information withheld with Saturn in the first house. I had come to the conclusion that I could not find Wally in this chart, because my question was not properly formulated, and had posed already posed another question three days later.
Who Wins Delta South?
At least I should be able to find the Defender and Challenger with ease. The Defender or incumbent is the first house and its ruler; Libra and Venus respectively. The Challenger is the seventh house and its ruler Mars. The battleground is the fourth house and its ruler Saturn. Now it should be a matter of deciding which planet is the strongest. The Astrologer in this one is represented by Mars, which has dignity by virtue of being in its own sign, fast in motion, and it is the final Dispositor in this chart. (See footnote 2) Working extra hard because it is in the sixth house—I did mention I am rather rusty with this technique; it is an intellectual exercise.
Wally’s standing is shown by Venus, Vicky is represented by Mars
The strength of Venus versus the strength of Mars should give an idea about who is in a better position. Venus is in Aries, which is the sign of her detriment; Venus is moving slowly and has some tools to help her but maybe not enough. Venus only forms one aspect, a conjunction with Mars, which represents the challenger-Vicky Huntington. Mars is in its own sign, moving fast and the final Dispositor in this chart, it is within less than 2 degrees of the Descendant, which gives it more prominence. Mars is in mutual reception by term or bounds. These are divisions of the zodiacal signs of varying length. These work to provide assistance. The recounting process belongs to Mercury. This might suggest that the challenger wins the riding. Mars also has a mutual reception with the Sun, however, the Sun receives a close Neptune and Jupiter square; it is slightly ‘looser’ to Mercury and Mercury is about to change phase. This might suggest that a recount is not enough and that this will go to a judicial recount.
The Moon in horary astrology times and defines the events to come. The conjunction the Moon made prior to moving into Aquarius was to Pluto—this would state the obvious, there would have been a battle over the power. The prior bodily conjunction gives indications about what has transpired. However the planets, which represent the two candidates, are together and mostly free of aspects from other planets shows that it is not about the two of them, but the authorities that will decide—no actual battle between the two.
The Moon is separating from a square to the lot of Victory, a Hellenistic and Medieval calculated point. This would be read: Victory is brought to question. The next aspect is a conjunction to Jupiter of justice and law, which times to about two weeks from the date of question. Jupiter represents the post of Solicitor-General. Jupiter is square the Sun and conjunct Neptune. The Sun in this chart, rules the eleventh house, which is the legislative body. At the very least it is a challenge to get into the legislature. That Jupiter is between the changes represented by the Moon and Neptune, the planet of illusion and dissolution. Regardless of the final outcome, there will always be questions about the ethics behind the decision—was it done properly, etc. The Moon forms a square to the Sun next, which might suggest there is a call for a judicial recount. Whatever the result, there will be speculation and people won’t be happy. The aspect from the Moon to Neptune follows, and this can be about hidden information or deceptive practises. The final aspect is to the retrograde Mercury, which is about to change phase. A decision will be reversed; seeing that Wally was declared a winner, chances are that this will be reversed. Saturn in this chart is stationary direct, which might state that someone new will be the new solicitor general.
In this chart the planets which represent the two contenders are isolated, which also speaks volumes that the two really have to nothing more to contribute to the process. The IC (fourth house cusp) also gives indication about the final outcome. The Moon makes no aspect to it, however the Sun and Mercury, which the Moon is applying to by a square are forming a trine to the IC; the final one from Mercury moving in ‘reverse’, which would seem to amplify the reversal of the result.

Footnotes
i) Solicitors, courts etc fall under the auspices of Jupiter and the 9th house
i) Mars is also in mutual reception with Mercury by term or bound; and I did have colleague and friend Stephanie Clement look at my analysis, prior to posting it.
