Huff and Puff Rhetoric

Jack Layton has been stating he will vote against the budget. No qualifiers, no reading it over—I guess he got a taste of being in power within the coalition and with it reason and logic left the equation. Layton the leader of the NDP is one of 37 MPs from that political party in the parliament; that is 12 percent of the 308 MPs. Gilles Duceppe of Bloc Quebecois is echoing that statement. The bloc holds 49 seats in the Parliament and represents Quebec only. Will this choice hurt these politician and their parties? The vote will take place on Thursday, but that will be a mute point… however, our political scene will change—well have Taurus vs. Cancer. More about that in future posts. Writing these commentaries is so much fun.Harper and Ignatieff are both Taurus Sun individuals whereas Layton and Duceppe are both Cancer Sun individuals. Both incidentally have the Lunar Node at 0 degrees, Layton in Aries and Duceppe in Gemini. Pluto is in the first degree of Capricorn, which makes an aspect to these two points. For Layton it is a square, which might indicate that his supporters are not going to be happy if he fails to support a budget that they feel is adequate. Duceppe is held to a different standard, and all he has to do is put a different spin on what he said.

So let’s look at what the solar chart for Layton has to say. Will he actually vote against the budget and will he continue to have the support of the NDP party and its supporters. I did not look at his chart much for the budget nor the proroguing issue—because I did not perceive him to hold much power in government; his party only holds 37 of the 308 seats. Twelve percent of the power does not amount to much. The Bloc holds 77 seats, and those seats combined with the NDPs seats amount to 37 percent of the power. But will the Bloc play with NDP with the Liberals out of the picture for now? I will address this a little later.

Layton solar chart

Layton solar chart

The chart I am using for Layton is cast for noon on the day of his birth and for Montreal, where he was born. If this happens to be your date of birth, avoid reading it as an analysis for you. Astrologers call these solar charts.

So firstly, I wonder why Layton thinks that he speaks for all Canadians. In his interview, which was broadcast at 15:04 PST, he already stated it wasn’t enough. He stated that the cuts to business were out of proportion to what was offered to the working class. (Who will employ people if businesses are forced to close their doors?) Layton has Mercury of communication in Leo parallel Sun in Cancer—he has the gift of rhetoric. That is the only aspect to his Mercury, which might keep his communication melodramatic. Without aspects to his Mercury, I don’t think he is a good listener. The Sun rules that Mercury—the ego and public persona tends to get in the way. The Sun in turn is ruled by the Moon. He has Moon in Virgo, which can be highly critical, nothing is good enough. At its best the Moon in Virgo can be very discerning-I am writing about extremes. In addition the Moon is with Saturn in Virgo, which can be a further indication of perceiving things lacking rather than offering concrete steps to fix things, which is the gift Moon-Saturn has. Then we loop back to that Mercury, which rules that Moon. The potential energy limited outlet, it is all talk and critical talk at that.

Uranus is also configured to that Moon—Saturn combo, and Uranus is about revolution, disruption and breaking structures—going against mainstream.

We can look to the Nodes of the Moon to see what we should be doing with our lives, naturally because we do not have a time we cannot look at specifics. The other concept routine assigned to the nodal axis-in the chart they are the symbols that look like ‘hooks’ in women’s bras—is understanding what is popular, the current consensus, the public opinion. His axis is 0° Aries to 0°Libra, which is currently squared by transiting Pluto and in May 2010 Uranus of sudden changes and disruptions, will be on his North Node. Could this be an election time? However, I don’t expect this to work well for Layton. Saturn will be on his south node in November 2009, a lot of pressure to let go of something. There is always a danger when you act without consulting with others, his life lesson may be to be a pioneer, learn to stand on his own two feet, but he has the potential to be an excellent mediator…

In July we will have total eclipse of the Sun at 29°Cancer 26. This eclipse is at the midpoint of Layton’s Sun-Mercury, I wonder if the NDP will hold a vote about leadership this summer or following potential issue over Layton’s ability to negotiate for the common good.

In terms of how his chart relates to the Canadian national chart, the first connection is that he is a Cancer Sun just like Canada, but his Sun only comingles to use a really old astrological term. It shares space and ideologies. Layton has Mercury in Leo at the conjunct Mercury in Canada’s chart. (See that chart at http://www.annemassey.ca/charts/canada-1867.jpg ) When our own Mercury connects with another’s we feel that we are voicing the opinion for both.

Duceppe solar chart

Duceppe solar chart

Duceppe similarly has declared that no matter what he will vote against this budget. Is that a wise political choice? In the noon hour chart for July 22, the Sun is at 29°Cancer; there is an eclipse on his Sun a day before his birthday this year. This marks a new beginning, a new cycle and we tend to change direction in life with this one-do something new. There are not two Moons in this chart; I placed two in it simply to indicate that we don’t know the sign placement for his Moon. It is tempting to speculate that since Harper and Ignatieff both have Sun in Taurus and Moon in Aquarius, it should follow that the two Cancer-Sun party leaders should have the Moon in the same sign, so I choose to speculate that both have Moon in Virgo. Thus Duceppe would have Uranus in aspect to his Virgo Moon, which would be a perfect description for the separatist leader…Should he have a Virgo Moon it would be in mutual reception with Mercury in Cancer, thus he would vote in favour of whatever is in the best interest (in his not so humble opinion) of Quebecers. Not humble because he has Venus conjunct Mercury in trine with exaggerated, grandiose Jupiter in Scorpio. I am now making an assumption that the vote is carried on the 28th, thus transiting Mars opposes Duceppe’s Sun, transiting Mercury of reason is moving away but Venus of balance is making nice aspects to his Sun-might he shock us an vote for it. He might be planning retirement in 2010… hmmm; this one is a tough call. I will just have to wait and see.

BTW - NDP increased their seat count in the last election. In fact, the NDP seat count has gone up with each election under Layton whereas the Lib seat count has gone down each election since Layton became Leader of the NDP. Perhaps a little less star gazing and a little more research will help give your commentary more credibility.

I stand corrected, however, the issue really isn’t about the last election, rather the simple fact that with 12% of the vote you cannot single-handedly bring down the government. Anne
