Harper and Ignatieff, two peas in a pod
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 | Current Planetary trends, Mundane astrology
I was creating a graphic in anticipation of the Liberals naming their leader, which to me astrologically speaking was a foregone conclusion, and decided to make a quick grocery shop run, and in the car I heard the news which stated that Harper has to put in a televised request to the new leader of the Liberal Party—Michael Ignatieff—to meet with him to discuss the upcoming budget. I just about burst out laughing, in light of what I had just been working on, but a picture is worth a thousand words. Here comes that picture.
I haven’t entered the identifiers as to which one is Harper and which is Ignatieff. All I did was mark their common markers in green, the Aries factor in blue and the planetary factor that can upset ‘the applecart’ in red. At a glance we can see how similar the two charts are; there is more activity in the one on the left. This factor could be analyzed to mean that the person on the left is more reactive, and likely to address any new issue from a variety of perspectives by launching into instant action or attack.
Astrologers work a lot with chart comparison to determine how a relationship works and where the challenges lie. The similarity of temperament appears astounding between the two. Both have Sun in Taurus opposed by Jupiter in Scorpio, which aligns with the Saturn-Pluto opposition in Canada’s Confederation Chart and in the financial houses of that chart. In the charts of both men we find Moon in ‘political’ Aquarius, which then forms a T-square by sign. Aquarius energy at its purest wants to do what is good for the masses or the many as opposed to what is good for an individual. Aquarius similarly to eleventh house energy is more likely to belong to organizations, political parties or offer their services as a volunteer.
Remember we don’t have a time chart for either man. My speculation is that Ignatieff has Scorpio rising and Harper has Taurus rising. However, that a side, the planetary patterns reveal plenty of information for the purpose of looking at potential capacity for cooperation. The men are certainly evenly matched—both strong individuals. OK, Harper is on the left side and Ignatieff on the right. So if we look at the parts highlighted in green in the two charts, we could almost lay these on top of each other and find just one pattern. This is a positive indication that the two can work together, granted both are likely to have personal issues related to the pattern but they can relate with ease, and for us here in Canada this cooperation is likely to yield good results in economic terms. Both men have Saturn in aspect to personal planets, which suggests restraint and ability to go about things in a legal manner honouring traditions. Both men have planets in each of the four elements and a strong Neptune to the Sun connection suggesting that both are idealistic and perhaps driven by ideologies, I do think the two can agree to disagree on political ideologies, and get on with the business at hand.
Communication styles for the two are different; Ignatieff (chart on the right in the above diagram) has a philosophical bent and identifies strongly with his convictions. He might make statements ‘I think therefore I am’, he is definitely the more analytical of the two. He isn’t as quick to state his views; he prefers to contemplate matters at length first. One thing about Mercury in Taurus is that you cannot force a statement or an answer until the person with Mercury in Taurus is ready to voice it, which can be frustrating. Harper has Mercury in Aries in aspect to Uranus and Mars, he can spit it out! Sometimes he’d be better off thinking it through first, his mind may work quicker than he can deliver, so some vital things may be left unsaid. In terms of synastry, Ignatieff’s Venus-Mars which communicates with Saturn-Pluto and Jupiter sits on Harpers Mercury-South Node and its dynamics in Harper’s chart. This complex combination can make the younger Man, Harper, feel that he has to think things through and be more contemplative and deliver his words only after thinking it through. If this scenario was played out by a pair of siblings, the younger one might feel that he is only allowed to speak when he has something worthwhile to say; and in other times his name is ‘shut up’. In turn, Harper can make Ignatieff look at more options, and see that arguing to clear the air can be healthy. I doubt that we will see much of this in public; both men know how to deliver a carefully planned announcement. However, if these two end up battling for the job of Prime Minister, it will get truly exciting. Who’d win, would depend on the timing of the battle. So from an astrological perspective, I think the Liberal chose a worthy ‘adversary’ to Harper, and in the interim we have a strong potential for reasonable, worthwhile cooperation. I would speculate that the Coalition talk will fade into the background for at least until March.
