Pluto in Capricorn and Mumbai

It is horrifying to watch the scenes from Mumbai. The news began as Pluto was moving into Capricorn. In terms of astrology, when the distant, slowly moving planets shift signs, we tend to see mundane events. This was probably the biggest story; however, the impact is huge on people. In order to understand the impact of this potentially destructive energy, we need to observe the news around transition dates. Mundane astrologers tend to be newshounds. Naturally the analysis for potential goes beyond Pluto… there are other major planetary themes at play.

From Christophe in France: “I was wondering about the effect of Pluto entering Capricorn for Capricorn Ascendant people? My wife is a Scorpio born with ascendant Capricorn and I was interested in knowing what will be the effects from an ascendant point of view.”

The Ascendant is our identity, physical appearance, the attitude we have and how we behave, it represents what wins us favours. If you have transit Pluto in your first house in your personal chart, you are getting in touch with yourself, partly by external force and partly because who you have become no longer pleases you at your inner core. The horoscopes out there, including my own, delineate the potential based on the Sun in any given sign as the Ascendant. You might want to read your Ascending sign for additional clues. Pluto in turn represents transformation, renovation, elimination—a serious attitude adjustment when it is influencing the Ascendant, first house and/or its ruler, in this case Saturn and/or one of the personal planets. Those born in early Scorpio, October 23-29, are likely to have benefits to reap provided they acted on the opportunities back in the mid-1980’s when Pluto was conjunct their Sun. Pluto was in Scorpio 1984-1996. The aspect, as the illustration shows, is a sextile, which 60 degrees. This affords the luxury of making changes rather than having them imposed on us. Pluto moves into Capricorn

I decided to launch this blog with Pluto’s ingress into the sign of business and structure, Capricorn. In reality this site has been up for about ten days already. Much the same way, we have been seeing the influence out there in the World. The global economy is in turmoil, we are in either in a recession, depression, or a technical recession, depending on which ‘expert’ or leader we hear discuss the situation. The rescue packages and the government spending in various countries are focused on infrastructures. This is of course a very Capricorn concept as is the limitation and long-term debt these actions bring into our lives.

Pluto moves from Sagittarius into Capricorn on November 26, 2008 at 17:03 PST. While knowing a time is relevant to cast a chart, when it comes to the outer planets—or Plutoids as the case may be—it isn’t about a moment in time.  Watching the news anywhere on the globe, the headlines already reflect our changing reality. In the course of the past few weeks, Mike of Hilightpress designed the layout and look for my blog. Mike and I also worked together to create a new site for the Fraser Valley Astrological Guild –www.astrologyguild.com. Mike is such a delight to work with and the results are spectacular.  I made the banner art for both blogs. Over the next few months I will learn how to manage this blog.

Now I have to decide what I am going to write on this blog. The first astrological posts will appear November 26. My monthly column will continue to published at www.astrologicallyspeaking.com
